Rise Up: Powerful Protests in American History by Rachel C. Katz offers children an overview of protests that have taken place in America since it was created. Everything from the Boston Tea Party, to the pipeline protests in the last few years.
What I liked: The book is easy to understand for the age range and is a great place for children to start when it comes to learning about the history of America. The illustrations by Sophie Bass are vivid and eye catching and it helps bring the stories to life. The timelines and maps really helped to paint a picture of how widespread these protests were and what the people taking part managed to achieve.
What left me wanting more: Very little! I think that they covered a wide range of protests, it would be impossible to cover them all. It is a great starting point and I feel that the children's parents should be prepared to talk more about these events with their kids.
Considering how much of history is glossed over, it is refreshing to see a book like this on the market. It would make a great addition to any bookshelf.
Good Points
A very enjoyable book
