A nonfiction book about pasta, SPAGHETTI SCIENCE takes readers on a journey to learn more about this wonderous dish. Discussing the ins and outs of spaghetti, what is and isn’t spaghetti, as well as how to make your own; it allows readers to take a deep dive into learning more.

The inclusion of actual recipes in this book is amazing. There is a recipe to make homemade spaghetti as well as spaghetti with tomato sauce. Parental supervision is encouraged should your reader wish to delve into the cooking side of this book!

True to its name, this book talks a lot about spaghetti. It goes into a beautifully detailed description of how spaghetti is made, starting from the wheat and ending on the conveyor belt. I hadn’t expected that level of information and it was fascinating to learn more about the behind-the-scenes nature of how spaghetti is made.

The book also briefly talks about a bunch of other things related to spaghetti as well. The difference between spaghetti and other noodles like ramen or lo mein. The different types of pasta shapes that exist and where, in Italy at least, they originated from. Even some fun facts related to spaghetti.

The illustrations, done by Lucia Rush, are simple but enjoyable. Rough edges, uneven lines, and a lack of details may put some readers off, but I thought it worked for this book. The images remained distinct and I never struggled to figure out what part of the image was relating to what information.

SPAGHETTI SCIENCE is a fascinating look at the everyday pasta that people may often look over. Perfectly suited for food-loving readers or readers interested in getting into cooking!
