he Bird Queen's book is a smart, moving, and immaculately presented tale of a kid coming to terms with loss through engagement with fiction and creativity. The characters are well-drawn and convincing, the drama is tight, and the plot is in turn comic, moving, exciting, and warm. I'd absolutely recommend this to all fans of Y.A. and N.A. fiction, and would similarly recommend it to fans of Italo Calvino, Gene Wolfe, or metafiction more generally. There's much more here than meets the eye.
Good Points
