In Koala and the Little Tree, a wildfire has just destroyed their home so a koala and a little tree decide they have to bring the magic back to their land. They journey through the remains and work together to survive and restore their home back to its former conditions. During this journey they find that the magic from their home was the love they had for each other and their habitat.
What I Liked: This book opens with devastation because of a fire that has taken so much from a koala and little tree. The beauty in this book though is that through little tree and the koala’s determination, they are able to bring hope and magic back to the land. The book touches upon how regrowth happens and how the animals that are left in that land assist with that growth.
The watercolor illustrations are beautiful and convey emotions through the various colors included in this story. This book goes from being devoid of color because of the damage done by the fires to being full of color and wonder as things get restored by Koala and Little Tree. Each page displays growth for the things that are being planted but also internal growth and self discovery for both of our main characters.
Final Verdict: Koala and the Little Tree is a touching adventure about the restoration of a forest after a fire has destroyed their home. This book touches upon the feelings that come with loss, and what comes after such a big loss, and how we can work together to restore and rebuild. This book is perfect to teach children ages 4 and up about restoration, love for the earth, and how sticking together can help you and others grow.
