The Trial Period by Auburn Morrow is one of those stories that starts off feeling chaotic and kind of funny, then slowly turns into something a lot more real.
Parker and Lizzie already don’t like each other, so the idea of them being forced to date for a whole month sounds like a disaster from the start. But that’s what makes it so fun to read, because you’re just waiting to see when everything falls apart… and somehow, it doesn’t in the way you expect.
What I really liked is how their relationship actually develops instead of feeling rushed. At first it’s awkward, a little tense, and honestly kind of entertaining because of how different they are. But as the days go on, you start to see them understand each other more. Lizzie being more quiet and dealing with stage fright compared to Parker being bold and loud creates a balance that ends up working in a surprising way. It didn’t feel like they suddenly changed for each other, it felt like they slowly learned how to meet in the middle.
I also really loved the LGBTQ representation in this. It feels natural, not forced, and it shows different sides of what it can be like figuring yourself out and opening up to people. Some of the more emotional moments hit harder than I expected, especially when it comes to family and being honest about who you are. Those scenes made the story feel more grounded, not just a cute romance but something with actual weight behind it.
My favorite part was watching how both Parker and Lizzie grow outside of just their relationship. Their lives don’t pause just because they’re doing this “trial,” and that’s what makes everything feel more real. Things go wrong, people disappoint them, and they have to figure out how to handle it without falling back into old habits. By the end, it feels earned, not perfect, but real in a way that makes you happy for them.
