When a sinister old woman leaves Griffin Penshine a box of twelve shiny pennies, she sets in motion a desperate quest; because the old woman was a wish stealer, and each penny represents a wish she stole from a wishing fountain decades earlier. Somehow, Griffin has to make things right, or the opposite of her own wishes will come true; and it could literally be a matter of life and death. The Wish Stealers introduces a new voice in middle-grade fantasy, as bright and sparkling as Griffin's pennies.

Wish Stealers

By Tracy Trivas

In the book Wish Stealers, Griffin Penshine lives in a small town and is always making wishes.  She wishes when a lady bug flies on her windowsill, on dandelion dust, and even trembling eyelashes.  But when Griffins mom and her stop at Mr. Schmidts tiny shop Griffin is tricked into taking a box of 11 shiny pennies that are said to be lucky.   After a few days, Griffin learns that they are not normal pennies, but stolen wishes!  To make it even worse the pennies come with a curse.  The wish stealers good wishes will not come true.  Griffin must find a way to return all the wishes so she will not be cursed. To make her life even more complicated, she also has school science night and mean girls to worry about.  Will she return all the wishes or trick someone else into taking them!!!

The main characters are Griffin and Garrett.  The miner characters are Mrs. Penshine, the mean girls, and Libby.  I think the author did a good job on always keeping you interested.   There were never any boring parts.  I think the author could have done a better job on describing the characters because you really dont know what Griffin looks like.  I think that people who like adventure and mystery would like this book because Griffin has to solve clues and travel to get all the wishes returned. I give this book 5 stars!!!
