Amelia Bedelia Digs In (Amelia Bedelia Chapter Books #12)

Geared towards 7-8-year-olds, a bit of this content will go over their heads, told in a voice that seems older than its main character and its intended audience. This may not work for all children.

Summer is another time for another adventure for Amelia Bedelia. Summer vacation means time spent at her family’s beach house with her Mom, Dad, dog Finally and her best friend from camp, Alice—along with extended family.

Summertime fun is not the only thing that occupies Amelia’s time. Her time is also spent discovering surfing and finding out pirates once lived on the island she’s now staying on.

The story was youthful, filled with giggles, silly jokes, and kid-like adventure. As mentioned some of the lingo, and scenes felt a little old for a book intended for kids under 10.

There’s mention of romance and idioms that I don’t think a child will understand. I don’t believe it will deter the enjoyment of the novel, it's not quite as child-like as anticipated.

Caricatures and fun drawings do bring this story to life and give it a journal-like feel.

At under 200 pages, with wide spaces and clear-to-read font, it shouldn’t be too long of a read for young children reading at chapter book level.

A decent read, with some issues, but should be an enjoyable read for kids with big summer dreams and a wild imagination.
