The Princess and the (Greedy) Pea

Out of a castle's bowl, there's a pea who wakes up starving and can't stop eating. He eats and eats and eats and he grows and grows and grows. After stuffing his face with anything he stumbles upon, he finds himself ready to sleep and curls into a comfortable bed even though he's so large he barely fits. It's a bed of a princess who also finds herself hungry after a nap and in need of a snack.

THE PRINCESS AND THE GREEDY PEA is a humorous retelling of THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA that uses a similar writing style to THERE WAS AN OLD LADY WHO SWALLOWED A FLY. The illustrations are vibrant with bright colors and teaches children that nothing good comes from greed. With the nursery rhyme feeling, the plot is fast-paced and almost feels like something you can tap your foot to.

This was such a fun book and the repeated phrases will help a young child read right along with their grown-up. The different ways to describe eating were very clever, I particularly giggled at the pea when he noshed the Jelly. This was a silly way of expanding vocabulary that is sure to have your child reading this book repeatedly. The ending is tied to the Princess and the Pea who is now grumpy in her lumpy bed and hungry but finds a way to solve her problem is cute. Overall, this is such a fun read with the illustrations, text font, and the story working in perfect harmony.
