There's a legend in Cucumonga Campground that claims there's a humongous duck that is so big it can eat a whale whole. Because of the fear the story stems, the main rule of this campground is to never feed the ducks. However, Hector doesn't believe it one bit, so he decides to feed the ducks when nobody is around. But he quickly learns how true legends can be when the Quaken appears and chases him down. Both the Quacken and Hector learn something valuable that will make children laugh.

THE QUACKEN is a children's picture book full of legends and humor. The illustrations are bold and the color schemes fit the setting. This would be a cute fall book to read because the of the eerie air the idea of the Quacken brings in. I love how Hector has that invincible mindset like most children do and how his assumptions are proven wrong. It teaches children to not ignore warnings others give.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this to children aged four and up who love humor with a dash of spooky. This mash up was one I didn't realize I needed but now I'm happy my daughter and I have read it.

The Quacken is a cute, child friendly story about a gigantic duck that can eat a whale whole!

We follow Hector to Cucumonga Campground, where weird things have been happening.
Being a childish take on the kraken myth, the story is fast paced and fun. Kids could easily read this alone, or together as a group activity. The Quacken makes for a great read aloud!

The illustrations are beautiful and fun. Each spread is full of motion, lending exciting action to Colón's text.

Young kids will find humor in this short story about a giant cuddly duck, it is sure to be a hit.

Thank you to Young Adults Book Central, Justin Colon, Pablo Pino and Simon & Schuster for a copy of The Quacken.
This is a wonderfully written and illustrated about a little boy named Hector who goes to a campground. He sees signs stating not to feed the ducks and his new friends tell him not to even look at a duck. Hector breaks the rule and finds out why.
I don't give away spoilers in my reviews. Suffice it to say it's an adorable kids' book and I think my little cousin is going to love it.
Good Points
A good story to teach a child there are consequences to breaking rules.
