A spider sets out to make the most perfect, awe-inspiring web only to have her artistic efforts destroyed again and again in this delightful picture book about the creative process and perseverance.

As a spider, Kiara has always made webs to catch food, but one day, she discovers a web so beautiful that she’s inspired to spin a masterpiece of her own.

So, Kiara starts creating, but even though she works hard on her webs, they are carelessly destroyed by others. How frustrating!

It’s not until Kiara meets Orb, a spider who eats every web he weaves, that she gains a fresh perspective: the artistic process isn’t about the destination but the journey and the friends you make along the way.

I Worked Hard on That is about a spider, Kiara, who uses her webs to catch food. It isn’t until she stumbles upon a beautiful web that she is set on making the perfect web for herself yet every time she tries it gets destroyed. This is until she meets Orb who helps her create a beautiful web yet he eats every web he weaves! Will Kiana learn something from Orb?

What I Liked: I usually am not a fan of spiders but this book made them so cute it was hard to dislike them. I appreciate the many messages that are given through this book and that it can be used to teach various things. I love that Kiana learns that the result of a project isn’t as important as the process and the friends along the way. Another lesson that Kiana learns through this all is how hard work pays off and to enjoy the hard work you have put into something.

I thought Orb eating his web was a silly part of this story but I was intrigued so I looked it up and it turns out that spiders do eat their webs. This was a fun fact that I learned unexpectedly. I love the illustrations throughout this book especially as the webs begin to get colorful the more elaborate that they are. This book reminded me of getting to work early and admiring the work that spiders had done overnight.

Final Verdict: I Worked Hard on That is a cute, fun book that delivers several great messages for children. This is a useful book to teach kids about hard work, the artistic process, self-esteem and friendship.
