Forts will make you want to drop whatever you're doing to go collect all the blankets and pillows in the house to build a fort in the middle of the living room.

This poem is about the importance of having our own safe space to relax and think, and how those spaces can come in all kinds of forms. The text will undoubtedly inspire the creation of all kinds of forts, as well as resonate deeply with readers young or old. Forts are “safe as coat pockets” and are “for being alone. When the world is too bright, too loud, or too peopley.” Forts are also for friends “because only friends can share a fort.”

This book highlights forts found in nature, in backyards, and in houses, capturing their magic and mystery in both lyrical prose and beautiful illustrations.
Pak's colorful illustrations show the variety of forts and the comfort found there. The color palette brings playfulness and thoughtful vibes in captivating ways that really capture the essence of the wonderful line of text: "thick with a fortish magic that makes them bigger inside than outside."

Forts is both a celebration of childhood play and a reminder that all of us need our own space to be ourselves; a space that can be kept private or shared with that special someone.
