LUNAR NEW YEAR WITH THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR is a charming holiday board book. The book includes tabs above and on the side of the book with each one attached to a page. Simple phrases present some of the key celebrations of the Lunar New Year such as dancing dragons, oranges, and dumplings.

What I loved: This is a simple but cute introduction to the Lunar New Year for the youngest readers. Simple phrases on each page keep the pages turning as quickly as little ones would like. The colors and imagery are true to the original style of Eric Carle with the Very Hungry Caterpillar appearing somewhere on each page.

The tabs are a particularly cool element of the book that help the littlest fingers to turn pages easily. They can be grabbed with ease and moved to open up each page spread throughout. Pictures on the tabs hint at what can be found in each scene.

What left me wanting more: As a small thing, I expected to see more of a story involving the caterpillar, and he is not mentioned in the story, except at the beginning and end. While this brevity works well for little ones, those who enjoy more of a plotline will be left wishing there was just a bit more!
