Do a Mitzvah Today!

“It’s a Mitzvah” by Suzy Ultman first shares what a mitzvah is—a re reminder to do everyday good deeds. The book highlights the importance of kindness, connection, and peace with others. There are a lot of Jewish words mentioned throughout the pages of the book, with images that illustrate each word.

From tzedakah, which is the mitzvah of giving, being fair, and thinking of others, to emet (truth), and gemilut chasadim (loving-kindness), readers will hopefully be able to connect to these words in their own ways and see how they use the ideas behind these terms regularly in their lives. Other words used include tikkun olam (repairing the world), hachnasat orchim (welcoming guests), and simcha (happiness), among others. Even though the book only names a handful, there are a total of 613 mitzvot in Judaism. Every day, readers are encouraged to do a mitzvah to bring more peace, happiness, and joy to the world.
