A hilariously honest and heartwarming story about anxiety, self-doubt, and the power of positive thinking, The Worried Book shows young readers that it’s OK to worry—what matters is how we respond

The Worried Book is having a bit of a meltdown. “Hi, I can’t wait for you to read me… You are going to read me, right? Wait―what if you don’t like me? What if nobody likes me?!” Meet the most anxious book on the shelf―a nervous narrator who worries about everything that could possibly go wrong. But as the pages turn, this worried book discovers something important: everyone feels anxious sometimes, and the key isn’t to make the worries disappear―it’s learning what to do with them. With warmth, humor, and a gentle touch, The Worried Book invites young readers to acknowledge their “what-if” thoughts and imagine what could go right instead of wrong. A reassuring read for little worriers and the grownups who love them, this story is perfect for classrooms, bedtime, or anytime kids need a comforting perspective.

Who doesn’t worry? This emotion is so universal that even The Worried Book has its own worries. There’s so much for it to worry about like what if no one reads it, or what if people read it and don’t like it, or what if he gets lost?

What I Liked: This book does a great job of showcasing the many thoughts that go through one’s mind when they are constantly worried. It also highlights the complexity of always being worried and how it leaves no room for other thoughts in your mind. This book provides children with another way of framing the what ifs when they are heading towards bad outcomes to think about what if things go good.

The illustrations of this book bring the worries to life as we see what is going through The Worried Book’s mind and how scary these what ifs are. This is a great book to read aloud with children as you can give The Worried Book a voice and children will enjoy seeing him come to life. There’s also moments of pause built into this book to ask questions such as what others worry about?

Final Verdict: The Worried Book is a fun book about worrying and going through the multiple what ifs that can happen. Children ages 4 and up will enjoy the scenarios that The Worried Book creates and being able to think of what if those bad things don’t happen. Adults will enjoy that this book teaches children that while worry is inevitable, there are ways to manage and control that worrying.
