Have you ever thought back to your experiences as a young child? Was your life funnier, more exciting, or maybe just simpler? After all, whats real life compared to spelling bees and homework&
A Boys First Diary follows the path of such a boy growing up in the 1950s. Through unique and descriptive poems, each diary entry is by turns hilarious, heartfelt, and very realistic. Even if youve never kept a journal or diary, readers will easily be able to find something to relate to in these poems. Tackled subjects include those of snow wars, piano lessons, messy rooms, dancing, and many more.
The best this about this book is how real it felt. I could easily imagine myself in all of these situations. Although the book is written in poetry, the voice in all the poems was real enough to make it seem like normal writing. It truly sounded like a diary entry! The book is also relatively short, which makes it a great read for those reluctant readers out there.
Recommended for readers age 8 and up, especially boys from 8-12.
