Alvin Ho is an Asian American second grader afraid of everything—elevators, tunnels, bridges, planes, thunder, kimchi, wasabi, dark, shots, girls, and most of all, school. At school, he never, ever, says a word. But at home he’s a very loud superhero named Firecracker Man who loves explosions, a brother to Calvin and Anibelly, and a gentleman-in-training, so he can be just like his dad. With his fully packed PDK Personal Disaster Kit, he can be ready for anything.

Reader reviewed by Julie M. Prince

Alvin Ho is afraid of nearly everything, and one of his biggest fears is school. That's going to make it kind of tough to get through second grade, so Alvin's already packing his PDK (Personal Disaster Kit) and preparing for the worst. A chapter book with heart, this one can be enjoyed by the youngest readers, who are sure to be comforted by a character who really gets their fears...and who may even be more afraid than they are.

Plus, no one will be able to resist characters like Alvin's friends Flea and Jules. Mischief multiplied. Speaking of multiplying, that's just what Alvin's problems do as he's forced to deal with one after another throughout this book. A fun, fast, and filling book. Off to turn another page....
