In Amoya Blackwood is brave, Amoya is confident and bold, but Amoya’s confidence seems to go away, and she starts shrinking because the adults around her ask her to be less loud, less bold, and less carefree. The adults ask to take up less space, therefore Amoya does, and she gets smaller and smaller until her grandmother reminds her who she is. Will Amoya be able to get back to her original size and be herself again?
What I Liked: The illustrations throughout this book do a great job of showcasing Amoya’s bright and colorful personality and how others shift her attitude. Each image highlights different parts of the story and does a brilliant job of bringing this story to life. The message in this story is great as it teaches adults how our words can impact children, and teaches children to embrace who they are and how brave it can be to be yourself.
