You’ll laugh out loud at this funny fractured folktale with pictures by a popular artist!

The Goldilocks family leave their campsite to go on a hike while their s’mores cool off . . . when along comes Bear.

“What’s that yummy smell?” Bear wonders. S’mores, of course: too gooey, too chocolatey . . . and just right! Bear eats them all.

Bear continues to wreak havoc by breaking a chair, smashing musical instruments, and extinguishing the fire. When the Goldilocks return, they are flabbergasted. They try to make a lot of noise to shoo away the bear . . . when Mama Bear and Papa Bear show up. Mama and Papa apologize profusely for the behavior of their naughty offspring, but the Goldilocks don’t speak “Bear.” They just hear a lot of LOUD GROWLING. So they decide to hightail it out of there, and the Bear family gets to enjoy the tents and snacks that are left behind.

This hilarious story, a perfect readaloud, and its hilarious pictures will delight children and parents alike.

Bear and the Three Goldilocks is a fun twist to a classic. This time, Baby Bear wanders into the camping space of the Goldilocks family and proceeds to eat their s'mores, play and break their instruments, and find a tent that is just right to sleep in. I wasn’t expecting a few of the humorous events and wording, which made for a delightful surprise. The last illustration has a picture of Little Red Riding Hood and a wolf watching the Goldilocks family hightailing it away from camp, and that feels like a hint at a sequel. Overall, this was a humorous retelling that was funny to read.

The Goldilocks family enters the woods. After setting up camp, they throw some dirt on the fire (safety first!) and go off on a hike, leaving the campsite perfectly empty for one curious little bear to explore. The s'mores are too hot, too gooey, just right - but he's a bear and they're all tasty, and so he eats them all anyway! This pattern of twists and understated humor fills the story all the way to the end.

I absolutely love this book. The cheeky little bear. The casual disaster that befalls the campsite. The bits of campsite safety (scare bears with loud noise), and the fact that Mama and Papa Bear do try to apologize for their wayward child only to be hampered by the fact that the Goldilocks don't speak bear. It's clever and funny, and the illustrations are so cute, with a simplicity and color palette reminiscent of old-timey national park brochures.

Perfect for fans of camping stories and reinvented fairytales.
