Join a mother and her adorable children for their weekly baking ritual in Pooja Makhijani’s touching story, with warm, tender art by Lavanya Naidu. Bread Is Love celebrates the act of baking and eating bread, and sharing it with family.

Bread is many things.

Bread is simple. The dough can be made with just flour, salt, starter, and water.

Bread is science. With the right ingredients, in the right amounts, the dough grows and changes.

Bread can be unpredictable. Sometimes it rises, like a soft pillow. Sometimes it’s flat and crunchy.

But bread is always delicious, especially when it is made with love.

Bread is Love by Pooja Makhijani captures the warmth and feelings of making homemade bread with those you love.

Bread is Love teaches the reader the beautiful lesson on the value of patience, the simple joy of slowing down, and all the lovely things [about bread}.. even the times it doesn’t work out.
One of my favorite parts is the bonus bread recipe tucked in at the end! This turns the story into an interactive experience perfect for the whole family, bonus its edible!

The illustrations evoke emotion, you feel the love and warmth radiating from the pages.
My kids loved seeing the spread with different kinds of breads and identifying which kinds they've eaten before and which kinds they think we should try next.

Bread is Love is a warm, wonderful, and all-around delicious picture book that delights in every way. I highly recommend this book for families with young children, especially those who love to spend time in the kitchen together.

Bread Is Love is a cozy and gentle children’s story that centers on a mother and her kids as they take part in their weekly breadmaking routine.

The book walks through the process in a simple (yet important) way, showing how just a few ingredients like flour, water, salt, and starter can turn into something meaningful. It also highlights how baking is not always predictable, sometimes the bread rises perfectly and other times it does not, but the experience still matters.

What stands out most is how the story connects food with care and family. The act of baking together becomes a way of showing love, patience, and togetherness. It emphasizes that sharing both the work and the final result is what makes those moments special. Even though the concept is simple, it carries a meaningful message about how everyday routines can bring people closer.

The illustrations by Lavanya Naidu add a lot to the story, giving it a soft and comforting feeling that matches the theme of family and warmth. The visuals help bring the kitchen scenes to life and make the bond between the characters feel real and inviting.

Overall, Bread Is Love is a thoughtful and cozy book that shows how something as simple as baking can represent love and connection. It is a great read to children, especially for sharing quiet moments together or introducing the idea that love can be shown through everyday actions.

There’s something so special about the way a simple loaf of bread can make a whole house feel like a hug. Pooja Makhijani’s Bread is Love captures that warmth perfectly. From the moment you pick it up, you notice it’s a big, beautiful book. The format size is perfect for spreading out on the floor or a cozy lap. The art is absolutely enchanting, with vibrant, clear illustrations that allow the littlest eyes to really soak in every scene and feel the dusting of flour on the characters' hands.

This book shares such a beautiful lesson on the value of patience and the simple joy of slowing down with family. It reminds us that the love we pour into the preparation is the real reward of working together, making that final result the warm, beating heart of the entire process.

One of my favorite parts is the bonus bread recipe tucked in at the end. It’s the perfect invitation to stop reading and start doing. There is honestly nothing better than spending an afternoon in the kitchen with the family, kneading dough and waiting for it to rise, turning the story into a real-life "loving dish" you can share together. It makes the whole experience feel interactive and just joyful!

This book isn't just a read, but a shared experience that nourishes the soul and the stomach alike. It’s truly a magical addition to any family's collection.
