BUSY VEHICLES: DINO RESCUE is a fun, interactive board book, great for dinosaur and vehicle lovers. Each page spread features a dinosaur in need of help, with the opposite page showing a different dinosaur in outline that transforms into a rescue vehicle, such as ambulance, police car, and air rescue.
What I loved: This is a simple concept that will charm toddlers and preschoolers who enjoy dinosaurs and vehicles. The transformations are clever with the outline of the dinosaur blending into the image shown underneath with the movement of the pull-out. This interactive element works well for young readers who like getting physically involved with their books.
The illustrations are full of color and cartoonish fun, easily grabbing young attentions. The pull-outs are clever, with designs on the side that pulls out of a bird in action, as well as a little tidbit on the back that describes the dino that is transforming with their name and description (such as pterosaur, which is a flying reptile). The font is bold and clear throughout, making it easy to read aloud.
What left me wanting more: While the end page shows the resolution for the dinosaurs throughout, the pages almost move too fast, so readers don't get to see how the vehicles are helping, just a brief description. As such, this may work best for little readers who enjoy doing the pull-outs and are not as interested in the storyline. Also, as another small thing, while this will go over the heads of young children, the thief on the police car page stole another dinosaur's eggs, which is essentially kidnapping.
Final verdict: Overall, BUSY VEHICLES: DINO RESCUE is a colorful and interactive board book, great for toddlers who love pull-outs, dinosaurs, and vehicles!
