FUNJEEPUPS: A BEAUTIFUL SONG is an engaging early reader graphic novel. The three Funjeepups, Dot, Button, and Dollop, are delighted when they hear a bird singing to them and decide to create their own music. They get their instruments, but they cannot make beautiful music. With a little help from their bird friend, they learn to play the instruments and begin to make a beautiful song together.

What I loved: This is a fantastic pick for early readers! The storyline is simple and the graphic novel panels are easy to follow, with no more than a few on each page. The text is limited, with much of the story being told through the illustrations. The speech bubbles are easy to follow and often just a couple words, so that early independent readers can easily digest and read these while gaining confidence and enjoying the story.

The art is very fun with expressive characters and a touch of humor. The images really help to tell the story and keep young readers engaged, so this is perfect for young independent readers. While the panels are very colorful, the text in the speech bubbles is on a white background with large, clear font to help make it easy. The words chosen are often repeated or sight words that are great for the youngest of readers.
