Greta has always wanted a pet but is allergic to everything. She delights when a cloud becomes her pet. Through this fantastical romp, we see how useful a cloud is, but also how some people do not enjoy rainy clouds. The illustrations are detailed and enhance the colorful story the author weaves. Even when the cloud becomes too small to remain, it still leaves something behind for Greta to remember their time together. This book reminds me of My Friend, Loonie by Nina LaCour. I can see both stories being fun fantasies for children who also can’t have pets. It could also be a primer before a child gets a pet to understand that eventually, all pets go away.
