It's a new day, but a girl can’t seem to shake a dream from last night. She doesn’t really feel like she’s grounded as she goes outside to encounter what she sees daily. Due to this, she now sees the beauty in nature, such as shimmering puddles and cracks in the sidewalk. As she is doing this, her dream suddenly comes back to her. She encounters a friend and feels much more grounded now in the world, but she doesn’t let go of the wonder of everyday things and the joy that comes when we are present.

What I Liked: This book begins with our main character waking up, who can’t seem to shake off a dream. She goes on a walk through her neighborhood, pausing to see the beauty in small things. Through this walk and taking in pauses, she grounds herself in the earth until she encounters a friend, who helps stabilize her even more.

This book highlights the importance of acknowledging one’s feelings while also enjoying the simpler things in our daily lives. The illustrations in this book do a great job of highlighting the beauty in the simple things within nature, such as the puddles and the growth in the sidewalk cracks. This book brings the story full circle as we get to see the moment in which the girl recalls her dream and she gets transported into that dream before coming back to the present time with her friend.

Final Verdict: Head Full of Clouds is a sweet and fun story about the importance of slowing down and taking in our surroundings while appreciating our daily scenery. Children ages 4 and up will delight in the various places the girl in the story passes through and relate to waking up with a dream stuck in the forefront of their mind.
