Toby just wants to get the perfect gift for his dad, but he seems way too hard to please. His uncle, on the other hand, greets Toby with a smile, hugs, and kind words; his garage even has a chair with Toby’s name on it next to his Uncle’s desk. Toby has come to realize that he can always count on his Uncle to make him feel better, like his mom says, there are people who make you feel just right.

What I Liked: This book does a fantastic job of introducing you to Toby and his mom as they are shopping for the perfect gift for his dad. The comparison of Toby’s dad and his uncle comes out from the early pages as Toby is picking socks out and mentions how there’s ones that feel just right for his uncle. The illustrations do a great job of highlighting what feeling just right means for Toby as you see his expression shift from disappointment with his dad to smiles when his uncle enters the image.

This book showcases an important message for children, showing them that to the right person, they are enough as they are. Adults will enjoy sharing this message with the children in their life and children will enjoy hearing this message. This book does a great job of balancing the ratio of text to images in order to tell the story so a younger audience will remain engaged throughout.

Final Verdict: Just Right is a sweet story that showcases the importance of people who embrace children as they are and make them feel that they are just right. Children ages 4 and up will enjoy this story and enjoy thinking about moments in which someone made them feel just right.
