Just Try It! Someplace New!

In this book, Lil is going to stay at her grandma’s house on her own and she can’t wait. That is, until she starts thinking about all the what ifs, and things that can go wrong. Phil has the perfect way of soothing her though this, he lets her know its okay to be scared of things we don’t know but that she should just try it.

What I Liked: This book begins by introducing you to Lil as she explains how this will be her first visit at her grandma’s place. She then goes on to express her concerns and her dad steps in to assure her that things will be okay. The book has a hilarious ending as things shift for Lil and her dad is now the one who has concerns of his own.

The illustrations throughout this book are vibrant and colorful which easily holds a younger audiences attention. The imaginative illustrations do a fantastic job of bringing certain fears to life such as everything being broccoli. The illustrations do a great job of showing the various feelings that Lil goes through as well as showing those feelings on the dad.

Final Verdict: Just Try It! Someplace New! is perfect for children who are hesitant to jump into new things and need a little encouragement to try something new. Children will delight in this tale as they see Lil’s dad help her face her fears and worries, and come to understand that even adults have worries of their own.
