What a fabulous find! There are lots of World War II books out there for Middle School students, but it is refreshing to see nonfiction (and a graphic novel) giving a first hand account of the The Great War , World War I. The diary covers the first two months of the conflict from France’s declaration of war to September 1914.
What I liked best: Barroux's innocent and childlike pictures capture the outlook of many soldiers as they sign up for military service. He describes his marches, night watches, and how he sees the victims of this horrible war.
An amazing book with amazing illustrations. Great to spark interest into reading more about WWI and history.
