With a storm approaching, Little Chick wants to get to shelter so he doesn't get wet. The lamb is no help, since he's happy in the rain, and the pig's sty doesn't smell too good. The cows are too noisy, so the search continues. Luckily, the horse has a cozy bed of hay where a cat,, a mouse, some bugs, and several other chicks have cozied up to get some rest.
Good Points
The rhyming text doesn't have perfect meter, but reads quickly. Two lines per page is the perfect amount of words for a small board book like this.
The illustrations are engaging, and there's plenty of detail on each page to lead to questions like "Where is the barn?" and "How many sheep are there in the field?" The real draw, of course, are the five different textures for the different animals. The pages are sturdy, and the fabric is securely fastened to the page, which is a good thing: both the cow and the horse have very silky fabric that will probably get a lot of wear!
Pack this in the diaper bag along with Rainey's Oink! I'm a Pig, Scholastic's Noisy Touch and Lift Farm, Lockhart's Tummy Time: Farm, and Selena's Peekaboo Who? for a good fifteen minutes of diversion for a young readers who is out and about on errands!
