Love that Dog is a brief novel in poetry. It is the story of Jack, a young boy, who finds his own voice through poetry (even though he thinks, at first, that poetry isnt for boys). He also finds a guide and mentor in Walter Dean Myers, one of todays best writers.

Sharon Creech has written just a darling little book here. I smiled more than once while reading it and Im sure you will too. The poems are simple but heartfelt and very effective in telling Jacks story.

Poems from other poets, such as Frost, are also included and given as examples of the works that stir Jacks soul.

You know, I feel like Im barely doing this book justice. Its hard to describe. So, just get thee out there and read it. Youll be glad you did. And, hey, teachers this could be a great book for classroom use to show how good poetry doesnt necessarily have to rhyme or be about something big it just has to be felt.

Recommended for readers of all ages.
