MEET THE MEGAFAUNA is an informative and fun middle grade nonfiction read. This book walks through some of the largest animals with cool facts and basics in addition to full-page, colorful illustrations and gatefolds to open up for larger glimpses.

What I loved: This is an engaging and informative book that teaches the basics about some of the largest animals. Young readers will enjoy seeing them and considering their sizes, as well as learning fun facts about each. The illustrations are large and add to the fun of flipping through the pages, and the gatefolds raise or fold out to reveal even larger images as well as other cool facts.

The language is approachable and easy to follow. The inclusion of a box of information/basic facts about each animal is a nice touch that allows the main facts to be gleaned at a glance. There is a good spread of animals both extinct and currently living. Helpful backmatter includes some great information on what happened to the ones from the past, how to protect the current ones that are endangered, and a glossary of key terms.

Final verdict: MEET THE MEGAFAUNA is an engaging, educational book for animal fans! There is much to be learned about the biggest animals on Earth!
