As the sun begins to set, Mama Goose shares the Moon's lullaby with her not-tired-yet fluffy little goslings. Their pond and its grassy banks are full of gentle wonders, with chirps and splashes and softly-buzzing fireflies from all of the animals settling down for the night, until at last the stars come out and the goslings too are ready for sleep.

The focus on sounds makes for a softly sonorous tale, sure to delight animal lovers and inspire not-yet-sleepy readers to mimic the sounds on page. Full page illustrations welcome the night with a transition from sunset to starry skies that range from soft pastels to deep, calming blue. I love the soft style, and the several collage style pages which include close ups on frogs and pond plants and other little details that aren't directly mentioned in the story.

Add this to the list of bedtime staples, especially for fans of pastoral scenes, cozy animals, and endearing little ducks.
