MY FIRST LIFT-THE-FLAP FAIRY TALES is a cute board book that tells the basic storylines of fairy tales. The book includes the stories of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and more. Each story has panels that can be read across for the basic information. A couple flaps appear on each page spread.

What I loved: These are simplified fairy tales with much of the scarier parts removed for little ones. For instance, when the wolf comes after Little Red Riding Hood, she runs and shouts for help, and the Woodcutter appears and helps to scare the wolf away. These slight changes make them more mild stories, though with the original plotline maintained, so that it will work for the youngest readers without scaring them.

The panels are a nice touch on the oversized board book that allows the stories to be read somewhat like a graphic novel. Each page spread has a different story, which allows little ones to move around in any order they would like easily. The text is very brief though with several sentences spread out on each page, which works well for toddlers and young preschoolers. The font is large and easy to read throughout, and a QR code on the back provides an audiobook for little ones who want to hear the stories on their own.

Illustrations are full of color and have animals in all the starring roles. They are quite cute and work well throughout to help tell the fairy tales.

What left me wanting more: The flaps are cardstock thickness and pasted onto the pages, and this makes them very easy to rip off for rough little fingers. The flaps feature parts of the story on the underside, which means that when they are detached, you lose a bit of the story.

Final verdict: MY FIRST LIFT-THE-FLAP FAIRY TALES is an engaging board book that provides an early introduction to the most famous fairy tales.
