My First: Paint By Sticker Farm Friends is a fantastic addition to the series of interactive sticker books. I worked with a mixed age range of children, and the older children could do the 5 & up version, and the 3 & up crowd could choose animals from this book, making it a fantastic crafting choice. The stickers are bigger and there are fewer of them (although there are still around 20-30 stickers per picture), making it easier for the younger age group. One child happily stuck stickers all over the page and was entertained for thirty minutes. Another child understood the objective better, but didn’t know higher numbers as well, and needed adult support. Through working with this child, I saw the benefits of how the craft activity goes far beyond making artwork of a fun farm animal. The child was working on fine motor skills because a few of the stickers needed to be turned to fit the space correctly. We worked on number matching and identification as we looked at the number by the sticker, and then I would show a small area of choice to look for the numbered space to put the sticker. Based on this experience, I would say it is better suited for maximum benefit to work with one child at a time for the 3 and 4-year-olds, but the five-year-old could independently work on them. I loved that this book does so much more than make fun art. All the children who worked on these pages stayed entertained and focused for thirty minutes. They didn’t finish, but because it is an easily portable activity, they were all able to take them home to finish at another time.
