Ari is on a hide-and-seek hunt searching for Grandma through the various rooms in her house. Grandma is just as good at hiding as her chameleons are, though. Will Ari be able to find Grandma and each of her chameleons?

What I Liked: This book starts with Arti’s arrival at their grandma’s house as they begin searching for her. It seems that Ari is used to Grandma hiding, so this is a familiar adventure. Through looking for Grandma, we get a glimpse at her life as a scientist, explorer, and more. Each time you read through, you’ll discover even more clues about the things that Grandma did before she became a grandparent. There is also humor incorporated throughout this story as the ducks are along for the adventure of finding Grandma.

The illustrations throughout this book are intriguing and intricate. The intricate illustrations make it easy for Grandma to hide in the different rooms along with her chameleons. The illustrations make this book a fun search-and-find after you’ve read through the story for the first time. The uniqueness of each room makes you want to stay on each page longer just to see what you find such as the different trinkets in each rooms and the photographs of Grandma.

This book closes with a fun activity, making you go back and read the book searching for Grandma’s hidden chameleons. It also leaves a question of if you spotted grandma hiding in each of the rooms which calls for another adventure with this book. These endings are quite fun as they make young readers want to go through the book again to look for both grandma on each page and the fun colorful chameleons.

Final Verdict: My Grandma the Chameleon is a fun story that turns into a search and find story after the first read through. Children ages 4 and up will enjoy listening to the places that Ari looks for Grandma and then going through and searching for her and the chameleons themselves. This is a book that can entertain young children countless times as each read can be a new adventure.

Ari goes looking for her grandmother at her house, but she is nowhere to be found. Grandma is very like her pet chameleon and can hide in plain sight. Ari enlists the help of her Grandma's pet ducks to find her, as they explore her very interesting house. Finally, Ari must try something unusual to try and draw her out. Will she succeed in finding her?
What I Liked: The story was easy to understand, but the world was really brought to life by the illustrations. There is so much detail in them and kids will love trying to find Grandma on each page. I did not notice the hidden chameleons at first read, but they do offer a fun challenge to kids when it comes to finding them.
What Left Me Wanting More: Honestly, I wanted to know more about Grandma's life. She seems really cool. She seems to have traveled the world and tried many things. The author's goal was to create a book featuring an older woman as they are usually missing from stories, but by hiding her, it allowed us to learn so much about her and her life. Grandma needs her own book.
Final Verdict: A fun book that offers kids plenty to do. They can have a lot of fun trying to find the characters. It was well written, intriguing and educational too as it could get children to ask about the items Grandma has in her house so they can learn more about the world around them. Highly recommended.
