MY LITTLE MUSIC BOOK: I LOVE MUSIC is an entertaining exploration of classical music instruments. Each page features an animal playing an instrument with a button to press to hear a small excerpt of that instrument playing. The last page includes a surprise button, where a random instrument that children have heard before will play and they can identify which one made the sound.
What I loved: This is a fantastic board book for children who love music and exploring through sound. The sound bites for the music are well-selected with several classical music pieces represented. The animals playing the instruments are colorful and large, which is great for the youngest of readers. Likewise, simple phrasing on each page focuses on the animal and instrument, which is also great for little ones.
The sound buttons are easy to spot and press, which makes them easy for toddlers to do on their own. An on/off switch on the back, as well as replaceable (AAA, not button!) batteries, can come in handy. Clear, easy-to-read font is great for caregivers when reading aloud. The surprise button plays the song plus an animal sound to make it easier for readers to tell which instrument is being played.
What left me wanting more: As a small thing, there is not a volume control, and it can sound a little loud for some of the pieces. The surprise button is also very cool in theory, but it often plays the same music over and over again (for instance, the xylophone six times in a row) which can be a bit frustrating.
Final verdict: Perfect for little music lovers, MY LITTLE MUSIC BOOK: I LOVE MUSIC is a delightful auditory read that introduces instruments to the youngest of readers.
