NOISY HALLOWEEN is a delightful book about Halloween, written for young toddlers. Each page includes a bit of text relevant to the holiday alongside photographs. On the right page, there is a picture with a touch-and-feel element that also creates sound, such as a child in a witch costume with a fabric hat that creates a cackling sound.
What I loved: This is a great multi-sensory journey for toddlers with pictures, textures, and sounds. The holiday theme is fun with pages for different elements, such as animals associated with the holiday, activities to do, and information about trick-or-treating. The use of photographs is great for this age, as they will appreciate seeing pictures of real children, animals, and other items. The touch-and-feel elements provide a lot of different textures (soft, smooth, etc.), and the sounds add to the fun with cackling witch, bubbling cauldron, cat meowing, ghost booing, owl hooting, and children saying trick-or-treat.
The font is large and clear throughout the book with many bright colors and solid backgrounds. This is great for young readers as they can start to follow along and appreciate the focus on the images and sounds. Also appreciated is the button on the back that can switch the book on and off as needed. While there is not a volume option, the sounds are not too loud or quiet, so they seem okay as-is.
What left me wanting more: As a small thing, some of the sounds are not easily triggered (particularly the cauldron) and need to be pressed in a specific place that is not marked. This can be mildly frustrating for some children who want to do it themselves but have trouble. Additionally, some of the writing is dark font on dark backgrounds which can be tough to read in low light settings such as bedtime. However, the vast majority is easily readable.
Final verdict: NOISY HALLOWEEN is a charming multi-sensory celebration of the holiday that young toddlers will love to explore!
