OLD MACPUMPKIN HAD A FARM is an entertaining Halloween version of the classic, "Old MacDonald Had a Farm." In this book, Old MacPumpkin has a cat, bat, witch, ghost, monster, and more Halloween creatures on her farm.
What I loved: This is a delightful twist on the classic song for young readers who love the original and/or Halloween. The creatures and their sounds are quite creative and fun. The illustrations are really fantastic with lots of color, details, and importantly, very friendly Halloween creatures. The end of the book includes a fold-out page to bring them all together for trick-or-treat and is a charming and satisfying way to conclude the song.
The book is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers who will love the melody and the Halloween twist. This book can be a bit long to sing (especially if you have a little reader who wants to hear it again and again back-to-back), so I particularly loved the QR code of the song. This allowed for rereads while listening to the song and helping to turn the pages and point out the creatures while giving tired voices a break. Listening also helps to understand the intention of the pronunciation for the refrains.
Final verdict: A new favorite for little Halloween lovers, OLD MACPUMPKIN HAD A FARM brings new life to the classic song with a delightful twist.
