Jojo and Rosie are excited that their papa is finally coming home after being away on a trip. They have a plan to make sure that they take everything that Papa might have missed while he was away. These items include a sign, flowers, a cake that they made with Daddy’s help, his slippers, robe, and more; while Papa is happy to have everything he missed while away, there’s one small issue. Where is Papa going to sit now?

What I Liked: This book is a breath of fresh air, from the vibrant illustrations throughout the book to the expressions on the children’s faces as they await their Papa’s homecoming and prepare with Daddy for this moment. It's exciting to see Jojo and Rosie delight in the preparation activities and how they involve one another, as well as their Daddy, in the activities. Throughout the book, you get glimpses into the family's life as the fridge reveals aspects of their daily life, as well as other rooms throughout their house.

I wasn’t aware of who the author was and was even more delighted to find out who he is. This information provided more insight into the story and highlighted how this was a book he could use with his family. This is a great book to teach children that while a parent might go on a trip for work or various reasons, they will come back to them and they are just as excited to see you as you are to have them back home. Adults will delight in this fun story in which children get up to all sorts of antics to welcome their dad back home. This is especially funny as Daddy goes along with these antics, knowing fully that they don’t need to bring all these items with them to pick Papa up.

Final Verdict: Papa’s Coming Home is a heartwarming story of children who are excited for their papa to return home after being away from them on a trip. Children ages 3 and up will delight and relate to one of their parents being away, and all they want to do to welcome them back home. This is a great book to read when one parent is away and children are awaiting their return home.
