Rabbit loves her garden. Squirrel loves his. But then their delicious vegetables begin disappearing. And they have only each other to blame . . . or do they? Well, Rabbit and Squirrel don't pause to consider any other possibilities. And so, for them, there's only one option: WAR! From the team that hatched the award-winning Ugly Fish, here is a hilarious cautionary tale about how jumping to conclusions can turn minor misunderstandings into major meltdowns.

Reader reviewed by Julie M. Prince

Rabbit & Squirrel are neighbors who never talk. They live in the same patch of the world and even have much in common, and yet they never share. Not surprisingly, it takes only a small misunderstanding to make trouble in the garden.

Retaliation is swift and harsh, making trouble grow out of control. Even when tomatoes are squashed and homes are ruined, Rabbit and Squirrel cannot admit their wrongs. They continue to bicker and argue until both face a problem bigger than either of them can fix alone.

This tale of war and peas will have families riveted to its pages. We can all understand the violation of things important to us. We can all understand that out-of-control feeling that twists our insides and has us doing things that we normally wouldnt consider. This book puts things in perspective.

And perspective! The illustrations in this book show unique perspectives of a rabbit to a head of lettuce and a squirrel to a tomato that make this reader smile. Dark, natural colors set the tone of the book, which carries through to the end.

An important message heard loud and clear!
