Bart Barnacle is ready to go home to the Land of the Rising Sun now that his giant pirate ship is finished, but he bursts into tears when he thinks of leaving his friends. He invites them all to come with him, but many have other plans. The Stiltonoots are always up for adventure, though, so when Geronimo inadvertently volunteers to go, Thea, Benjamin and Clarissa want to go as well. Packing up the ship takes a while, and the journey doesn't go smoothly-- a giant octosaurus attacks the ship and it takes the bravery of all on board to survive. When they finally arrive at Black Rock Island, Trap is accused of stealing food, and Geronimo must prove that his friend is innocent before the cavemice can head back home.
Good Points
It is almost impossible to read a Geronimo Stilton book without becoming hungry for CHEESE! Not only do the characters have frequent banquets that include it, but a lot of their exclamations involve cheese of some kind! These are usually printed in variety of typefaces and bright colors, which elementary readers find tremendously appealing.
There are a number of series about Geronimo, including a space version, a Viking Fantasy, and at least 60 of the original mysteries starring Geronimo as a newspaper reporter. They are all like cheese covered potato chips, and hungry readers won't be able to stop at one!
