Detective Cluehound and his sidekick Sergeant Squirrel are very excited for Easter. They've made an Easter basket to enter in the town parade and contest, and hope to win. Sadly, a bunny hopping by grabs the basket and takes off with it. Mounting their tandem bicycle, the two detectives take off after the perpetrator, chasing through the Easter egg hunt, a flower shop, and nearby farms and parks. After suspecting some ducks, Cluehound searches a carrot patch and almost corners the bunny in a bunch castle, but the dastardly hare gets away. Returning sadly to his office, Cluehound finds out what has happened and who has taken his basket, and is finally able to celebrate the holiday.
Good Points
Detective Cluehound has already been involved in Christmas and Halloween capers, and this book follows the same sort of format. There's not much of a mystery, but young readers will enjoy the chase and the frolicking across the holiday landscape. There's even a little bit of Easter candy for Cluehound to enjoy, and plenty of brightly colored Easter eggs, chocolate rabbits, and marshmallow chicks decorating the pages.

This would be great for a read aloud, since there's just the right amount of text for short attention spans, and the pages turn quickly. The font varies in size, and there's a nice sense of urgency to the narrative.

This reminded me a little of the slap dash humor of Quackenbush's Sherlock Chick series or Martin and Roy's The Agatha Case Files: Welcome to Kittyville!. There's always room for another animal detective book or a good Easter romp. Pop this into an Easter Basket, but make sure it's decorated as well as Detective Cluehound's!
