A hefty compendium of saints, made to inform and delight. This book features over seventy saints, including for each where and when they lived, their patronage, feast day, and emblem, and a short story of their life.
As someone familiar with the saints in name only, I found this very informative. Some of the stories read like miniature biographies; others, more like fables. I enjoyed that the style feels free to include some elements of suspense while remaining true to canon, at least as it is commonly known.
Certainly, aspects of the saints lives live up to the promise of "bold and inspiring tales", but for households with younger readers, I would remind that many of these illustrious figures did not meet pleasant ends. The tales in this book reflect this, often continuing past the moment of virtue/principle/triumph to the saint's passing.
Overall, a beautiful addition to the bookshelf with stories crafted to evoke the past and inspire conversation.
