A must-read for everyone. Anne Frank's Diary is an insightful portrait of a Jewish family in hiding during Hitler's anti-Semetic regime. Anyone from fifth grade on should read the diary for an understanding of this horrible time in our world's very recent history. Young readers will have no trouble understanding Anne's diction, and will come out with a better understanding of the Holocaust. Older readers will gain insight into this oppressed teenager's mind, will relate to her thinking, and will build perspective on the quality of life people have today. I read Anne's diary in fifth grade and was just old enough to understand it; now, at 18, I still remember many of the anecdotes. I just visited the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam last week, and explored the Secret Annex where the Frank family hid for three years. I recommend anyone who travels to Europe take a day trip to Amsterdam to see this piece of history.
