A treasure trove for museum lovers, The Great Big Book of Museums introduces 13 museums across the globe, with notes on architecture, history, famous and lesser known artwork, and other unique exhibits. Some like the Smithsonian and the Vatican museums may be familiar household names, while other such as the Hermitage or the Quai Branly might be lesser known gems waiting to be discovered.

Each museum is given two full page spreads, the first being an overview and expansive look-and-find illustration, while the second serves as a visual dictionary, peppered with smaller drawings and fast facts. As someone who generally finds an hour sufficient time to be in any one museum, I enjoyed the variety of information presented, including the story behind a museum itself and where specific artifacts were found, as well as museum security and upkeep. A close look might also get some chuckles, as the book seems to poke fun with its details (placing text about the Vatican dress code next to the famously unclothed statue of David, for example). Overall, the facts are probably still most appealing to those interested in art and history, since the museums all fall under the that category.

Whether you're getting ready for your next museum outing, or absorbing history from a comfy couch, this book has a little something for everyone.
