THE GREAT BIG HALLOWEEN HUNT is a charming lift-the-flap board book with a Halloween theme. Children are asked to help search for pumpkins on each page, finding other items and creatures along the way. At the end, they lift flaps to find the Halloween treats for everyone involved.

What I loved: This is adorable and simple, but it is loads of fun, as children will enjoy searching the flaps for the pumpkins and treats. The characters are Halloween-themed, with a bat, ghost, cat, and more to find along the way. It is pleasant, light, and perfect for children who loved to get involved in reading.

The text was clear and easy to read throughout, with each flap having a short phrase about what was found. The illustrations are fantastic with a focus on the search and lots of Halloween colors on each page. Descriptions of different locations/rooms are given for each page, orienting readers easily.

What left me wanting more: As a small thing, the flaps have somewhat of an intended order, with some saying "another" which can be tough when that is the first flap opened. They are not in an obvious pattern, so it is anyone's guess. As another small thing, rougher readers will definitely tear these off. I appreciate that they are built in, but they are maybe cardstock thickness, which is easy for rip-the-flap readers to get off. While you lose the text and the search, it can still be a fun book to search through without the flaps.
