The Humble Pie doesn’t need the spotlight after working hard and being part of the team. That changes when his best friend, Jake the Cake, is too busy to help on a project, and Humble Pie feels overwhelmed. It can be scary to stand up for yourself, but being open about your needs can lead to a better outcome.
Many of the previous food group books dealt with emotions perceived as negative, so it is interesting that being humble is featured. This book gives a realistic, concrete scenario of a school project and the dark side of being humble, being taken for granted. With humorous illustrations, young readers follow along as Humble Pie learns to address his emotions and set healthy boundaries.
The illustrations and punny wordplay are so much fun to grab readers' attention. The core message explores an important topic regarding how to manage our emotions and feelings to set healthy habits and boundaries that will last a lifetime. Overall, this is a fantastic book for readers of all ages to understand that even positive traits need boundaries to be healthy. I highly recommend that school counselors, teachers, and caregivers make sure this book and the rest of the series are on their shelves.
