The Little Puppy is a Valentine’s Day story about Ollie spending a day playing with her Grandma’s puppy, Milo.

What I Liked: This book opens with letting us know that Milo is going to be spending the day with Ollie, and she is so excited for the day to begin. Ollie has a plan for how the day is to go but right from the start things aren’t going her way since the puppy has tore the drawing she made for her grandma. Ollie isn’t happy about this and goes off to blow some steam before realizing she doesn’t want to be alone and Milo shows up. They then go on several adventures as they begin to learn the best ways for them to spend time together. Ollie is able to enjoy the day and at the end has a drawing for her grandma and the puppy.

The illustrations in this book are in black and white with hints of red that let you know it is Valentine’s Day themed. The colors work well as they match the colors of the dog and add to the fun as Ollie is wearing clothes that make her similar to Milo. There are several cut outs throughout the story that transition smoothly from one page to another and add a fun feature to the book.

Final Verdict: The Little Puppy is a delightful book that teaches you about patience and not taking out your feelings on others. Children ages 4 and up will enjoy the various adventures that Ollie and Milo get up to after the puppy rips up her drawing and the ways in which they learn how best to communicate with one another.
