The morning sun is rising, but where's Ned's cock-a-doodle-doo? Ned's just not a morning bird. Daisy Mae and the other farm hens have an egg business to run, and they've no use for a lazy, mixed-up rooster. It's time to call in another rooster!

So what's Ned to do? To his surprise, when a crisis occurs, Ned finds his very own calling after all.

The Mixed-Up rooster is a funny read-aloud with a gentle lesson: It's okay to be different.

Poor Ned. He's got a job to do, as a rooster: wake everyone up early. But Ned has a problem. He likes to stay up all night and sleep in in the morning. What's a rooster to do when he's fired from his job? Ned discovers other night lovers to play with . . .and then he saves the day by deterring a dastardly snake bent on a little omelet-eating. Ned ends up with a new job that's totally perfect for him.

This book is a hilarious read with a subtle "being different is okay" message. The conclusion is perfect. The illustrations are delightful; children will spend extra time finding the funny details such as Ned's purple slippers and teddy bear.
