The two kids in this book have moved a lot, so much that they are experts at moving. The boy talks to his younger sister about what to expect while moving, as they reflect on memories from each of the homes that they have lived in. The Moving Book takes you through three moves that both children remember, from a small, overcrowded apartment, to a proper urban apartment, to a house that will have enough space for grandpa to live there too.

What I Liked: This book begins with the older sibling explaining to his sister about their family moving often, and how she probably doesn’t remember much of those moves because she either wasn’t born yet or she was too young to remember. While the sister may be too young to remember, the older sibling does briefly go into what those moves looked like for him. Through the siblings sharing of memories at the various places that they have lived, you get to see many sweet moments in which the family engages with each other such as Halloween Trick or Treating and going out to a restaurant.

The detailed illustrations throughout this book do a great job of introducing you to the various places that the children live as well as their various surroundings during those times in their lives. There are portions of the book where you have to flip the book 90 degrees to continue reading which is interesting as these pages have you going up the stairs with the family.

Final Verdict: The Moving Book is a intriguing story that is perfect for children ages 4 and up, especially those who have to move often for various reasons. This book will put some of the children’s anxieties about moving at ease as the older sibling explains the process of moving. Overall this is a fun book that teaches us that moving is also a time to reminisce through memories especially those that adults might not recall such as the sister thinking she lost her plushie, and the children getting to chose their own rooms.
