To Catch a Ghost

It’s show and tell time, but what happens when you don’t have anything to bring? I guess, since you have nothing, you’ve been left with no choice but to catch a ghost. To Catch a Ghost takes you through all the steps required to catch a ghost, such as spending quality time together and building the perfect ghost trap. And just when you think you have caught a ghost, you have to think to yourself, are you okay with catching a friend?

What I Liked: This book opens by letting you know that show and tell day is approaching, and we have nothing prepared, so our main character is going to help us catch a ghost. This book takes you through each step as if taking you through a case, but ultimately, while you complete the original mission, the child can’t keep the ghost because of the compassion that they feel toward their new friend.

The illustrations throughout this book are crayon drawings and bring light to the story as well as an older vibe, as the illustrations take me back to 80s and 90s picture books. The book is written in the second person; therefore, it draws you in as if you are the main character of the story, which children will delight in as they get to make friends with this ghost that they are trying to catch.

Final Verdict: To Catch a Ghost is a beautiful book written for children ages 4 and up that captures humorous moments, along with showcasing the tender hearts of young children. Children will enjoy the journey of befriending a ghost to catch them, and you can pause to see what the child wants to do once you get to the moment where things are perfect to complete this capture before revealing what happens in the story.
