Trains & Trainers is a realistic portrayal of the ups and downs of being the younger sibling to someone with special needs. Badr has autism, and when his behaviors interfere with his sibling's ability to have fun, it is hard to believe that he’s a blessing from Allah. The child’s growing resentment reaches a high point when he is not allowed to get a train set because his brother would break it too easily. However, Badr realizes more than anyone knows and builds a train out of all the shoes in the house. His special outlook allows for the brothers to have a great time together. With autism diagnoses on the rise, this is a much-needed honest look at sibling relationships and how they can be challenging and rewarding. Having the family come from a Muslim background creates a more inclusive look at who can have autism. The illustrations and story are engaging and relatable, making this a great read for anyone who has rough patches getting along with their sibling.
